On the road

Well here we are in our first post from the road. My brother and I stopped off in St. Louis to see his friend Chuck (pictures from last nights debauchery are not suitable for such a family friendly blog). We got lost and had to pull over into the parking lot where I snapped this photo of "the Gateway to the West". Up next, Oklahoma City, OK.

Last night I was sitting in the front window of the Hillbilly Haven drinking a damn fine bourbon and basking in the glow of the Gasoline powered Christmas Tree that lights up the homeless park in front of the house; thinking about all the things a hillbilly like me has to be thankful for: The love of an amazing woman, Booze, Pork, Friends, Family, whiskey stills, and ribs... probably forgetting something here. It’s been a hell of a good year.

Posts will likely be reserved until we shake our hangovers sometime after the New Year. Just wanted to assure you that we have big plans for Ol- Cap-Hillbilly in the coming year.

Fun and Games

Its all fun and games until your fellow hillbilly throws the christmas tree on top of you while you're trying to pass out on the floor. This was the result of R Dubyas post graduation celebration. We didn't get to bed until 4 or 5 am and we were ALL late to work the next day. Bourbon makes for a cruel mistress.

I just ate a whole plate of Crack Chicken and I feel pretty amazing. Or as RDub would say, I could whip my weight in wild cats! What you are looking at folks in Peruvian style Charcoal roasted rotisserie chicken, or Pollos A La Brasa. The best damn chicken I have ever had. There are a few of these around DC and many others that are similar but not quite as good. The chicken comes with a sauce that they are very stingy with. I am convinced that it has a bit of crack in it; and is damn addictive.

Go grab yourself some right now if you haven't tried it. Makes the Colonel’s chicken taste like a McNugget.

And speaking of chicken…I need o vent a bit! The Hillbilly Haven is located in the middle of a good area of restaurants and bars. It used to be rather shady, but over the years has become a really nice neighborhood. The one exception to the nice businesses being the Popeye’s chicken that is very close to the house. I have eaten there only a hand full of times and every time I regret it because this Popeye's in particular is a rather crappy and shady establishment. I think maybe they never change the greese or something so the chicken tastes funny. It is dirty and the staff is lazy. My latest trip there was greeted by a half crazy girl running the counter with three others who spoke mainly Spanish helping with the counter and cooking. One of the workers, a guy, was sitting on a box in the middle of the food prep area eating a sandwich. The other guy, who was running the fryer, at his leisure I might add, would grab a fry every so often off the rack and eat it. No gloves. That place just sucks. And guess what, after I sat there for about 15 minutes waiting, just as I had expected, my chicken sucked too.

It was almost a perfect weekend. I tell you, and this has been true for a long time, The Mountaineers are a tough team to love. They will beat the biggests of giants and then fall to the team that everyone has them beating for certian. Maybe the boys were a little hung over. That's what I always blame a game like the brawl this past weekend on. Major dissapointment.

Things have been a little slow around the around here, but hopefully that will change. We have a few regualr posts coming up. JDiddy is going to start posting some regular Hillbilly adventure photo's, and RDub is going to hopefully sober up enough to start his Requiems of a drunk hillbilly column.
Stay tuned.
